Ollie Jones has beaten more than 9,000 candidates to land a contract for 2018 with the Dimension Data Development Team. Jones got through the final test to ride for Dimension Data for Qhubeka, the development squad that feeds into the team that boasts the likes of Steve Cummings, Edval Boasson Hagen and Mark Cavendish.
Some 9,200 young and talented riders from around the world applied for the opportunity to join the team that in the past has boasted none other than Keegan Girdlestone. Ollie Jones, Nick White of Australia and New Zealander Sam Mobberley were the three finalists who came to the conclusion of the Zwift Academy Programme with the best of them going forward with the Development Team next year.
After completing the six-week Zwift training programme, Jones fought his way through the semi-finals that pitted ten riders around the world against each other in a combination of both indoor and outdoor riding. The final challenge saw him head to South Africa with Mobberley and White to, among other things, ride with Cavendish and co. From there Jones was informed of his selection to the team.
“To say this is a dream come true is the understatement of the year,” Jones said after selection. “It’s a life-changing experience and I still can’t believe it’s happening. Now I’m onto the next challenge of making the move to a new home in Lucca, Italy and doing everything I can to support my teammates in the season ahead.”
We will have more on Ollie Jones’ massive achievement in being selected for Dimension Data for Qhubeka.
