Nick Miller and Alexander Ray have been confirmed to join Team McDonalds Downunder in 2018. The Kiwi duo who come from different backgrounds internationally, will join the team that in 2018 will race under UCI Continental status.
2017 was a year of ups and downs for Alexander Ray who was based for much of the season in America; his primary location for racing over the past few years. A year that in 2017 saw him also incorporate European racing in France, the UK and Sweden turned around for the better when he returned to New Zealand and took silver in the Criterium National Championships in Takapuna.
Ray’s punchy, aggressive style of racing combined with his rich experience and knowledge of racing has attracted the attention of Team McDonalds Downunder who will provide a new challenge in 2018.
Nick Miller has raced with the Downunder outfit in his past and in 2016, with Kenyan Riders Downunder finished 12th overall in Tour of China II. It’s the UCI Asia Tour where Nick has been primarily based in contrast to Ray. This year he rode particularly strongly at the Tour de Flores and Jelajah Malaysia.
Miller led the Tour de Flores overall for two stages and finished 7th overall, while he also took 6th in Jelajah Malaysia and placed 7th and 8th in stages of the Tour de Singkarak in November.
Speaking on the team’s Facebook page, Team McDonalds Downunder said, “Nick’s level head under pressure and tactical knowledge will play an important part in our races throughout the year.”
