Kate McIlroy has climbed up to 12th overall in the Santos Women’s Tour after stage 2 in Adelaide.  Cylance Pro Cycling took 1st and 2nd in the stage after Kirsten Wild finished ahead of Rachele Barbieri while Chloe Hosking took third place.

Stage 2 of the Santos Women’s Tour took the field around the same circuit as today’s People’s Choice Classic, the 2.3km circuit in downtown Adelaide.  The circuit was a gently rolling one but largely flat.  All in all the field tackled 14 laps of the circuit, a total of 32.2km.

Almost the entire peloton ended the stage together, landing the second stage with a mass sprint finish.  On the line it was Wild and Barbieri who sprinted to first and second on the stage with Hosking third and Alice Barnes of Drops Cycling Team and Annette Edmondson of Wiggle High5 rounding out the top 5.

First of the Kiwis to cross the line was National Criterium champion Racquel Sheath of the New Zealand National Team.  Sheath led home teammates Bryony Botha, Mikayla Harvey and Amanda Jamieson.  Also in the peloton were Rushlee Buchanan and Kate McIlroy, and it was McIlroy whose performance on the day saw her climb up to within striking distance of the top ten.  McIlroy sits 12th overall, with Buchanan now in 14th place and Williams 15th.

All three are 1.01mins behind remaining leader Amanda Spratt of Orica-SCOTT, with Janneke Ensing in second and Kirsten Wild third.
