Things continue to be on the up for Keagan Girdlestone as he looks to keep climbing to the top level of the sport. A big last two weeks of racing saw Girdlestone in action at both the Gravel & Tar Classic and the New Zealand Cycle Classic; and the signs are good.
This year has already been a ground-breaking one for 20 year old Girdlestone on his road to recovery. The New Zealand Cycle Classic from 17th January and Saturday’s Gravel & Tar Classic heralded his first UCI road race starts since March 2016. While there are plenty of easier options out there I’m not sure that’s Keagan’s way!
We were able to have a very brief catch up with Keagan before he got underway in Palmerston North for the 3rd edition of the Gravel & Tar Classic – won this year by Ethan Berends of Mobius BridgeLane – and he noted that the Cycle Classic was a big step forward for him.
