Georgia Williams has signed for Australian outfit Orica-SCOTT. The move is a huge progression for Williams who moves to the top flight road outfit after 2016 was devoted to the track. Williams will join the team that already boasts five wins to its name in UCI events for 2017.
After a 2016 completely committed to the track, 23 year old Georgia Williams is excited about heading to the Australian team where she will be able to concentrate on her road campaign that has already resulted in two second place finishes in the elite women’s national time trial and road race.
“I am very excited to be joining the team,” said Williams in a team announcement. “I am looking forward to focusing on the road season this year without any track commitments.”
“I can’t wait to race with the Orica-SCOTT girls and hopefully we can have a fun and successful season together.”
Williams will be heading to Europe this week with the team and despite her youthfulness she already has experience racing the toughest professional women’s races around the world, with her years at BePink seeing her tackle the Giro d’Italia in July. Sports Director Gene Bates said, “Georgia comes with a lot of experience both on the track and in European road racing.”
“We are obviously very content with her background and we wanted to sign a rider that we could just drop into big races without any concerns.”
Georgia’s first outfit with the Orica-SCOTT team will be in Belgium where she lines up for Omloop van het Hageland on the 26th February.
