Stage 1, UAE Tour done!
It sounds like we finished about sixth on the stage (in a time of 17 minutes 13 seconds, +0:24), which is actually a pretty good result. That’s the very first team time trial as this squad. It was not pretty. I don’t think anyone who is going to see the coverage of our ride is going to turn around and say that was pretty. So it was nice to hold it together.
A few little mistakes there crossed us a bit, but sounds like Jumbo-Visma (16:49) have taken it out comfortably. They deserve that. It’s a hard course and it’s a hard one to get right. At the end of the day, as a team we’ll take that. Something to build off of, and with the squad here and the guys here that’s not a bad result.
We turn our attention to tomorrow (184km). A big open desert sprint. Hopefully, not too stressful. Jakub Mareczko is pretty good at finding his way through those finishes so we will try to set him up the best we can for the big sprint tomorrow.
