What comes after a hat trick?

tdwedvaldboassonhaganthumbSep 18th, 09. Edvald Boasson Hagen went one better than a hat trick when he won his fourth consecutive stage in the Tour of Britain overnight, and he's not planning on stopping there.

"We have won four stages, I'm really satisfied with that, but I want to try for number five tomorrow," said the Norwegian.

Team Columbia HTC again dominated the day's racing, with Boasson Hagen winning the longest stage in this year's race, 183km.

He also beat his previous record, a hat trick of wins in last year's event.

As happened on previous stages, Columbia HTC controlled the race perfectly, only allowing breakaways they knew could be reeled in before the final sprint.

"That was a strong group in front and it was hard to catch, but the team worked really, really hard," Boasson Hagen said after today's stage.

"Tommy (Lovkvist) did an amazing effort from 2km to 1km out. In the last corner a Cervelo rider came through but it meant I had a nice lead out from him. Then I just went full gas to the line."

Boasson Hagen leads the General Classification by 19 seconds ahead of Kai Rues (Rabobank), Martin Reimer +21s (Cervelo) and Chris Sutton +24s (Garmin).

"We'll try and make sure Edvald wears the yellow jersey all the way to London," Columbia HTC directeur sportif Valerio Piva said.  "There are still two tough stages before then, but we're the strongest team in the race and they know what to do."

Tomorrow's stage is 159km in the southwest of Britain and the final stage is a circuit race in central London.

Today's win brings Columbia HTC's total wins this season to 82.

"We won 85 races last year and we never thought we'd be able to equal it. We're close now and so who knows, we could get there. It's something good to aim for," Piva said.
