Top Rides: Sam Bewley talks Trek Madone

thumb_sambewleystrekmadoneJun 21st, 09. Sam Bewley races in the US with his team Trek-LiveStrong.  He talked to Sarah Christian from RoadCycling.co.nz about the bike he loves and his enlightening visit to the Trek factory.

Kiwi Sam Bewley rides a Trek Madone 6.9 Pro Red.  "I love the bike. It is so light and so stiff," he said.

"I have been riding a Trek for a number of years now through the help of Ron Cheatley the Managing Director of Cyclesport/Trek in New Zealand."

"He has been great to me, and now I am on a great team riding the best bike in the world. The most successful. 8 Tour de France victories in the last 10 years."

Bewley and fellow kiwi team mate Jesse Sergent had the opportunity to visit the Trek Factory in Wisconsin this week and now say they will never look at their Madones in the same way again.

"We had a tour of the Trek factory a few days ago. It was amazing, the factory itself is huge and everything is made there which is pretty special and still so many of the details are hand done," said Bewley.

"After seeing how the bikes are made and put together at the Trek factory, it did blow my mind, the attention to detail that goes into every bike, and still how much of it is hand-done."

The Trek factory team run an organised bike ride each day at lunch, Bewley and Sergent joined in on the day of their visit.  "The atmosphere there is great, 700 employees that all seem to have a great relationship. The way the company is run is like nothing I've seen before, Especially for the size."

"It's easy to see why Trek Bicycles are the most successful bike company in the world and will continue to be for years to come I think."

"It's hard to sum up a bike, but Trek bikes are incredible. A pleasure to ride," Bewley

Whilst in Wisconsin Bewley and Sergent rode in a couple of local Criteriums with the rest of the Trek Livestrong Team.

Bewley showed off the great combination of his kiwi pace and Trek Madone handling in the criterium in Waterloo close to the Trek factory. He was off the front for about 40 minutes with just one companion.  Unfortunately the 21 year-old was caught with 2 laps to go when rain started to fall.

"It's hard to sum up a bike, but Trek bikes are incredible.  A pleasure to ride," concluded Bewley.
