Check out our highlights from the Elite & U23 women’s road race from yesterday’s day of racing at the Elite Road National Championships.  The incredible day of racing resulted in a famous record breaking win for Rushlee Buchanan ahead of Georgia Williams and Kate McIlroy.

The elite women’s race was a very unpredictable one to pick as so many riders arrived in Napier with race winning capability.  Jaime Nielsen came into the race on the back of a very successful weekend already with victory in Friday’s individual time trial seeing her crowned three-time champion ahead of Williams and Rushlee Buchanan the defending champion in that event.

This time though there was no stopping Rushlee as she called on tactical know how to get the better of her breakaway companions Williams and McIlroy in the finishing sprint.

In the U23 women’s category it was Amanda Jamieson who called on her effective sprint finish to get the better of Michaela Drummond and Lydia Rippon.
