We bid adieu to Napier with fond memories of phenomenal racing. The final Elite & U23 women’s road race threw plenty of action our way with breakaways going early, chasing from the defending champion and a very tense final lap that could have seen the accolades go to any one of about 15 riders until finally an emotional Georgia Christie crossed the line as winner of the U23 race and the national title outright.
With Deborah Paine, Michaela Drummond and Niamh Fisher-Black taking positions 2-4 it was a truly U23-dominated race. The elite race saw a surprised Holly Edmondston overcome low fitness levels to take the title ahead of Sharlotte Lucas and Georgia Williams.
