Chapman wins Gravel and Tar La Femme, MGHWC fill 2 podium spots
Living up to its billing as a race of attrition, the 2019 Gravel and Tar La Femme produced outstanding racing from the start as riders went on the attack one after the other; with the winning move by Brodie Chapman coming with a good chunk of the race still to come.
Chapman would go on to win the race ahead of Mike Greer Homes Women’s Cycling duo Jenna Merrick and Rylee McMullen.
It’s a testament to the race that afterwards while walking around the finish area we heard rider after rider talking about how enjoyable the race was – in spite, or maybe because of, the challenge – and on the podium afterwards Chapman made it known how she hopes that this race will grow in stature over the coming years as it becomes more widely and broadly known and respected as one of the Southern Hemisphere’s toughest events.
