Both men’s and women’s combinations have recorded fastest times in the team sprint qualifying rounds at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup at the Avantidrome in Cambridge.
The women’s team sprint combination of Olivia Podmore and Natasha Hansen recorded the fastest time from the women’s team sprint qualifying round. Starting second out of 10 teams to go Hansen and Podmore recorded a time of 33.154 seconds over the two laps. Closest behind them were the Polish duo of Marlena Karwacka and Urszula Los who finished 0.018 seconds slower. Australians Caitlin Ward and Stephanie Morton finished third ahead of Gazprom-Rusvelo.
Ethan Mitchell, Sam Webster and Eddie Dawkins, rising to the occasion of performing in front of a home crowd, very nearly went sub-43 seconds with a time of 43.038 seconds. Japan finished second at 0.326 seconds with Poland third ahead Russia and Trinidad and Tobago. The Southern Spars Track Team of Bradly Knipe, Sam Dakin and Jordan Castle qualified for the first round with a time 0.873 seconds slower; which put them in 6th place ahead of Australia.
