Cycling New Zealand has confirmed an 11-strong elite team to contest the UCI BMX World Championships.  The Championships will be held for the first time in Baku, Azerbaijan on 5-9 June, on a new facility built for the 2015 European Games.

 

Rio Olympian Trent Jones, who is based in Las Vegas, heads a three-strong elite men’s team with 2016 junior world champion Maynard Peel and current national champion Cody Hobbs.

 

The London Olympic silver medallist Sarah Walker leads the elite women’s team with national champion Rebecca Petch, who qualified for her first elite World Cup final last weekend, and Zoe Fleming.

 

They join five riders named earlier in the junior elite category.

 

The full FIRST Windows & Doors New Zealand Elite team is (with club in brackets):

Female: Zoe Fleming (East City), Rebecca Petch (Te Awamutu), Sarah Walker (Rotorua).

Male: Cody Hobbs (Te Awamutu), Trent Jones (Christchurch City), Maynard Peel (Sunset Coast).

Junior Female: Jessie Smith (Hamilton), Baylee Luttrell (Hamilton).

Junior Male: Cailen Calkin (Hamilton), Ryan Jordan (Hamilton), Luey Cotton (Kapiti).
