Specialized have released ‘Inside Specialized Racing’ the Sam Gaze episode. In this episode in the series Gaze gives an overview of his career to date, his first European experience, and shares some of the inspiration that has led him to where he is now; a young man having a world title under his belt.
Over a great soundtrack, and some awesome footage of races past and more present, Sam Gaze takes us through his life as a mountain biker, beginning by saying, “It’s addictive. It’s one of those things that’s completely addictive on me, the racing.” In the nearly four minute mini-documentary, Gaze shares his simple go-for-broke attitude, as well as some of his early memories of racing.
Sam began to start getting serious as a first year U19 rider, and from there enjoyed the eye-opening experience of taking his racing to Europe for the first time in 2013. While by his own admission he got a lot of things wrong as he ‘travelled in a car and raced bikes as fast as I could’ the learning experience was priceless and unquestionably formed a big part in spring boarding him to future success.
Nowadays life for Sam is a far cry from those early European days. He rides for Specialized Racing, taking on and beating the biggest names in world mountain biking. He goes up against the likes of Nino Schurter and co, athletes he recalls watching at the London 2012 Olympic Games and tells us, “I don’t have any reason to be anything but grateful” for the life he is able to live as a top flight off-road cyclist.
