2019 is here and so too, very nearly, is the Gravel and Tar Classic.  The only UCI one-day race in New Zealand for both men and (for the first time in its history) for women is a whole different kind of challenge for road cyclists and Robert Stannard knows all about that challenge.

The Gravel and Tar Classic is one of the toughest one-day races in the Southern Hemisphere and we got to sit down and chat to 2017 champion Robert Stannard to talk about it.  There’s a lot that goes into making this race what it is and with just about three weeks to go until the race itself we got the lowdown from Stannard about what makes the gravel so difficult and so special all in one, what kind of race we can expect and more.

This year’s event takes place on January 19th with a UCI men’s and women’s classic as well as the Slicks and Stones Gran Fondo.
