Mike Carswell of Revolution Cycling 100% claimed his first win at the Grassroots Trust Team Championship presented by Dynamo Events.  Carswell powered away from a small breakaway group to take the win ahead of Cameron Wynniatt of Blindz Direct and Chris Denholm of Team Skoda Racing.

A course of 109.7km awaited the category 1 riders for the third round of the Team Championship in Ohinewai. Though not radically challenging in terms of gradients, the strong wind conditions would make for a battle of the strong riders over the course of the day.  It would prove to be a day of drama as the early stages of the race saw a great many number of riders dropped before the circuit even kicked in; such was the intensity of the racing and the severity of the wind.

Eventually a group of riders broke clear of what was left of the peloton, with Team Skoda Racing heavily involved in the move.  Bridging across to the group were Spoken Coaching’s Luke Mudgway and James Oram of Team Skoda Racing.  Also in the move were Ryan Christensen and Boris Clark of Crediflex Pro4mance, Chris Denholm of Team Skoda Racing, Cameron Wynniatt of Blindz Direct, Nick Reddish of Spoken Coaching, Mike Carswell of Revolution Cycling 100% and Oliver Young of CCN Factory Racing.

It proved to be this move that would go all the way to the line, but the intensity was kept high, with no real desire for many of the riders to finish with a sprint.  That meant that instead the final kilometres were fraught with attack after attack with everyone seemingly throwing caution to the wind.  However, it was Carswell who attacked best, with his move seeing him dance away from the others in the final kilometre to claim a good win by just 1 second clear of Wynniatt and Denholm, with James Oram coming home fourth.
