The race itself will begin in Paris before heading northeast.  It is there that the route will loop around a bit as the riders tackle four climbs before heading for home in Chauny.  Hayden will look for a good result here before going on to his next stage race in the Tour of Liege.  RoadCycling caught up with him to see how things were going prior to the race, “I ran top 10 last year and a teammate came 4th.  I’m in mint condition and want to get a result here.  Then I’m on to Tour of Liege which starts the 14th.  I won U-25 last year and 4th overall.”

The four climbs the field will have to tackle are the Cote de la porte de Soissons, the Carrefour a qauche, the Cote de Vollequier-Aumont and the Cote de Guivry.  The descent of the Guivry could prove crucial to the end result.  The climb finishes at just over 10km from the finish line and if a breakaway rider possesses good descending skills it could be the necessary catalyst to see them go to the win.  First prize for the winner is 487 euros or $759 NZ; with prize money being distributed between the top 25 at the end of the race.  There are also prizes available for the categorised climbs and sprint points along the route.
