Hey, we started a blog! Or a vlog or whatever those people who are down with the tech call it. For those of you who haven’t watched the above yet you really oughta! There you would learn that I, Ed, the guy behind the camera, am undergoing a young-life-crisis and am breaking out of the mould to bring you my life on the bike; thanks in no small part to the fact that in just a couple of months I will be lining up at the Hobbiton Movie Set Gran Fondo.
What’s possibly scariest about this new endeavour is that it will be the first time I’ve lined up for a race or Gran Fondo in all of 10 years! Oh I’ve been to many an event since then, countless since joining RoadCycling and taking over back in 2014, but it’s always been as the man behind the camera, the man writing the reports, the man doing the interviews and all that stuff which I continue to love. But the revolution has begun, my diary of an ordinary cyclist begins here, and it begins with a question over numbers.
Our amazing coaches who we know and love over at our coaching database know numbers, it is a language they speak and are fluent in; and it’s just as well because there are just so many out there. As an ordinary cyclist I am provided with the opportunity to focus on any number of metrics and scrutinise what they mean in relation to my performance. The major difference between myself and our coaches is that number-knowledge doesn’t abound with me. So what is helpful? What number providers make a difference?
To provide a personal answer to the question we put three training tools to the test simultaneously within the same workout, the Wattbike, our Fitbit and the Moov Fitness Coach; seeing what data they provide and comparing their attributes.
Sit back, relax and enjoy!
