A well taken third place and the mountains jersey for Hayden McCormick awaited the Breads of Europe-All About Plumbing team after the first day of the SBS Tour of Southland 2014. The team were the first to go under 5.10mins with Fraser Hewett, Thomas Hubbard, Darcy Ellerm-Norton, Michael Vink, Hayden McCormick and Alex Hooper all working well together. Alex told RoadCycling, “We are happy with the result today, the main thing for us was not to lose the tour today and to stay upright in the rain and we managed to do that and not lose much time so we are happy!”
In the end only two teams would go faster than the boys in green and black. Kia Motors-Ascot Park went 7 seconds quicker, with Avanti Racing winning the stage and taking the first leader’s jersey; 11 seconds up on Breads of Europe-All About Plumbing.
The team have come from varying backgrounds this season, having raced all over the world in Europe, Oceania and America; but they gelled well for the team time trial; putting them in a good position going into the rest of the race. “The team have all done TTTs before and we were able to get everything dialed in the past few days so we were more than confident with the team. We are looking forward to the rest of the tour,” Alex said.
