Allen is spending this season racing in the US for team Rubicon Orbea.  He's splitting his time between the road and the track, but track is the real goal - Olympics 2012.

After completing a road tour with the team, last weekend Allen was back to the track for the FSA Grand Prix in Seattle.

He won the scratch race, the miss and out, plus the madison, where he had teamed with Jame Carney.  (Carney is a former US pro racer, an Olympian, and a World Cup Track Cycling Gold Medalist).

Carney and Allen remain undefeated madison champions in the three races they've teamed up for to date.

Making a stand in the sprint event

While this haul of results was achievement enough, Allen surprised many, and himself, when the 6'5" endurance rider also podiumed in a sprint event.

"I also managed to scrape 3rd in the match sprint, which was an event I wasn't even going to do," he told RoadCycling.co.nz

"I was staying with a couple of sprinters and I was down at the track early with them and I got bored -  so I thought I may as well throw my leg over my bike and do something."

"I didn't really warm up, so I qualified by the skin of my teeth in 9th. Then I managed to go all the way through into the medal ride offs which was hard - I had to use the top 6 inches quite a bit to beat the faster guys that's for sure," he laughed.

"The finals ride was against Carney, it was good fun. I managed to pull out a few track stands on the home straight which I haven't done for quite a few years. Nothing like remembering how to do them under pressure in front of a couple thousand people watching hahah (thank goodness i didn't fall off!)"

After the weekend of success, Allen was crowned the overall winner.

"The title carried a nice wee cash bonus with it as well, so it was a mint weekend of track racing that's for sure!!!" he said.
