Each day of the Tour, prizes were allocated for stage placings, interim sprint placings, KOM placings, for the wearer of each of the jersey classifications and for the day's Most Aggressive Rider.
At the end of the Tour these prizes were added to the rewards for the overall winners of the classifications and the total prize purse for each team was determined.

In addition to the prize money earned during the Tour, Cadel Evans' overall win gave BMC 450,000 €, and having both Schleck brothers on the final podium earned Leopard Trek an additional 300,000 €. Not surprisingly, these two teams ended the Tour as the winners in the prize pool stakes.
Liquigas Cannondale had the Lanterne Rouge rider, Fabio Sabatini was the last rider on the General Classification +3h57s, but it was Team RadioShack who earned the least throughout the three weeks. They came into the Tour with four riders in the GC hunt but crashes and their subsequent withdrawals and injuries left them with a Tour they would rather forget.
Every one of the 167 riders who finished the 2011 Tour de France earned at least 400 € for their team - it is not much reward for the effort they put in. Respect to all the Tour riders!
