The 21 Stages

  • 10 flat stages
  • 7 mountain stages
  • 3 summit finishes

Countries

After the start from Monaco the Tour will successively visit France, Spain, Andorra and Switzerland and make a detour into Italy: a total of 6 countries. During the grand traverse accross Europe eight new stopover towns will see the Tour ride through.

 

The 1992 edition of the Tour still holds the record with 7 countries visited that year.

 

The Mont Ventoux on the day before the Champs-elysees

Never in the history of the event has a mountain been on the program the day before the finish in Paris.  This will be the case this year with the Ventoux mountain finish on the 20th Stage creating an exciting finish to the Tour.

 

Team Time Trial back on the program

The team time trial as not appeared on the race program since 2005.  For the 2009 edition official times recorded at the finishing line will be included in the general classification and the team classification.  The stage classification will be calculated according to the time achieved by the fifth rider in each team to cross the line.

 

 

The oldest and Youngest winner

  • 36 yrs.  Firmin Lambot (Bel) in 1922
  • 20 yrs. Henri Cornet (Fra) in 1904
