Let the fireworks begin and other facts
Jul 11th, 12. 84% of our Kiwi readers believe there are plenty of fireworks to come in this Tour de France - here's what else we know about you.
During the Tour, the daily prize entry serves as a way for you to enter to win the great Felt F3 road bike, but also for us to learn a little more about you.
Who do you WANT to win vs THINK will win?
Before the Tour started we asked firstly who you wanted to win the Tour, and secondly who did you think would win the Tour.
17% of you wanted NZ's Greg Henderson to win!
Of those who chose from the GC contenders, almost double chose defending champion Cadel Evans (37%) over Dauphine champion Bradley Wiggins (21%) as your preferred winner.
The next most desired GC rider was Ryder Hesjedal (5%) - unfortunately the Giro d'Italia winner is already out of the Tour as a consequence of the big Stage 6 crash.
When we asked who you thought would win the tour, the Evans vs Wiggins picture was not so clear cut and the Australian only slightly beat out the Brit with 40% compared to 38%. No other contender got above 2% of your vote.
Team to join
If given the chance to be a rider in this year's Tour, Team Sky was the preferred choice, but there was quite a spread of answers.
Most prestigious jersey to wear
While 25% of your believe the polka dot jersey for the King of the Mountains is the most prestigious jersey behind yellow, 65% of you picked the green points jersey as No 1. 10% picked the white Best Young Rider jersey.
Dream way to win a stage at the Tour
"The glory of destroying your main GC rival on the last km of a alpine finish would be the best feeling in the world," was how one person described their answer.
"Always fancied myself as a mountain goat. Reality is a totally different and cruel thing though...," said another.
A mountain win is the dream of 56% of you, while 20% would like to win via a non-mountain stage breakaway.
Some mentioned the breakaway TV time as a motivator, others wanted the extra time to hear themselves being cheered by the crowds on the run in to the finish.
One breakaway dreamer gave himself this reality check, "Can't sprint or time trial to save myself and my body won't climb like the mind wants to. It does require the entire field to fall off the road and then I get towed to the finish line by the medics car while feigning an injury."
16% were keen to win in a sprint and 7% wanted the solo glory of a time trial win - particularly the prologue, "It guarantees the yellow jersey!"
