Cadel Evans' Tour de France victory confirmed

20WATSON_00002681-004_2Aug 30th, 11. Unlike the cloud hanging over the results of the 2010 Tour de France, this year's results have been confirmed after the last of the Tour's doping tests came back negative.

Last year's Tour results will not be known until the outcome of the late November Court of Artbitration for Sport (CAS) hearing into Alberto Contador's doping case, whereas Cadel Evans has already secured his place in the history books as the 2011 Tour de France Champion.

The UCI today announced the last of the samples taken from this year's competition have been analysed. The last samples received from the Châtenay-Malabry, Lausanne and Cologne laboratories all showed a negative result.

UCI President Pat McQuaid called the news excellent.

"This excellent news further highlights the quality of the various anti-doping measures brought in by the UCI in recent years, especially the introduction of the biological passport," he said.

"It also indicates that there has been a change of mentality and behaviour within the peloton. Our sport is on the right track and we will continue to use all means available to protect it."

The only 'adverse analytical finding' of the 2011 Tour came during the first week when 30 year old Katusha leader Alexander Kolobnev tested positive for a diuretic. He subsequently withdrew himself from the Tour.

The arbitration between the UCI & World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and Alberto Contador & the Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) is to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on November 21-24.
