USA Olympic team announced |

Jun 16th, 12. The USA cycling team to contest the London Olympics was announced today with a mix of new and experienced riders.
In the men's road race, Chris Horner takes the leadership role as the only member of the five rider team not in his twenties - he is 40.
Horner is joined by Tyler Farrar (28), Tejay Van Garderen (24), USA Road Champion Timothy Duggan (29) and Taylor Phinney (21) who is also taking the one time trial position.
Although he has an incredible amount of international race experience, this is the first time Horner has been selected for the Olympics.
"So excited to hear the news on the Olympic team - honoured to be selected with such a great squad! Four T's and me!" he twittered. "Sorry about killing the average age of the team, guys."
Racing in the women's Stars and Stripes team are Evelyn Stevens (29), Shelley Olds (31), Kristin Armstrong (38) and Amber Neben (37), who will also race the time trial event.
In the track team, Sarah Hammer will contest the Omnium and the Team pursuit alongside Dotsie Bausch, Jennie Reed and Lauren Tamayo.
In the men's track team, Bobby Lea is racing the Omnium and Jimmy Watkins the men's sprint.
N.B. All USA Cycling nominations are subject to approval by the USOC board of directors.
17th - Update fom USA Cycling"USA Cycling has received numerous inquiries regarding the men's Olympic road team announced yesterday. Prior to the commencement of the Olympic team nomination process, George Hincapie, Levi Leipheimer, Christian Vande Velde and David Zabriskie individually requested that they not be considered for nomination.
"USA Cycling will not speculate on the reasoning behind their requests and will not have further comment on this topic; any questions related to their decision should be directed to the individual athletes."
