This week a year ago RoadCycling.co.nz retired

BenRoadCyclingOct 11th, 11.  This week a year ago RoadCycling.co.nz announced it was retiring from reporting NZ's cycling news.

Although the funding opportunities which lured us back did not come to fruition, great support from BMC through Capital Cycles, CycleSport NZ and latterly Tineli, have helped us enjoy another season of bringing you news of Kiwi success on the world cycling stage.

With our sponsors' help, casual advertisers and readers' kind donations, we have been able to share the stories of NZ's riders who have again been brilliant about keeping in touch throughout the international season.

As for the rest of 2011, international racing might be about to end but there is still plenty of news to come regarding riders and team announcements.

Domestically, Sarah and Ben will be providing indepth coverage of the PowerNet Tour of Southland thanks to support from the organisers and event sponsor, and will also try and get to a few other local events.

Although we would like to be reporting from all the great summer funrides and graded races, it is not practical. The time and cost involved in getting around the country is significant.

Oddly enough, it is much easier to report on overseas events than NZ events thanks to much greater media support internationally.

If you would like to help out and become a citizen reporter in your area, join the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and let us know what event you could cover.

As for 2012 ... we are definitely heading to the Tour de France and to the Olympic road race events, whether that will be a holiday or as media is yet to be determined.
