Peter Latham spent his 2009 international season in America racing for Bissell Pro Cycling. It was his first US season after four seasons racing in France.

The Waikato rider's form this year has impressed his team who have re-signed him for 2010 when he'll be wearing the NZ Criterium Champion's jersey after recently winning the title.

Best ride/result of the season?

Best ride was at the Joe Martin Stage Race early May. We had the yellow jersey after the prologue. 90km into Stage 2, five guys were up the road with 8mins with another 90km to go.

I got the call up from the boys and for the next two hours myself and a teammate rode the front, catching the last breakaway rider 3km to go. That was the ride I earned the respect of my teammates.

Best result for the team was winning the Overall Individual NRC title with my team mate Tom Zirbel. We were 2nd team behind Saxo Bank at Tour of Missouri which was huge up against all the pro tour teams and 2nd team on the NRC standings for the year.

Personally, winning bronze at the World Track Championships after three times 4th was satisfying.

I finished 6th on GC at the two highest ranked NRC tours; Nature Valley and Tour of Elk Grove and Top 20 at Tour of Missouri and the Sun Tour.

Winning the National Criterium title a few weeks ago is a big deal for the team for next year.

Highlight of the season?

It was a long time ago now but the highlight of the season was the Tour of California in February. Three million people lined alongside the roads over the 9 days and riding alongside Lance was a huge experience. Next year will be even bigger.

Are you happy with your 2009 season?
2009 was my first season in the U.S. after 4 years in France. I have great team mates, we are one of the best teams in America and I am really happy to have signed with Bissell again for 2010.

I learnt a lot this year and next season if an opportunity comes my way then I hope to make the most of it. I will keep doing my job for the team and I am sure we will win a lot of races.

Are you planning on riding; Tour of Southland, Taupo Classic, Festival of Cycling, Elite Nationals...?
I do Southland with Bissell in a couple of weeks where it will be a real privilege riding in my team colours at home in N.Z. With our team leader Ben Jaques Maynes and myself and Jeremy Vennell we want some big results. The boys are not out here for a holiday!

It's always nice to be home in N.Z. I have been full gas since this time last year so after Southland and the Melbourne Track World Cup end of November I will put my feet up for a few weeks.

I would love to be on the start line at Taupo [Latham is the defending champion] and down at the Festival of Cycling but I will decide closer to the time. I am definitely looking forward to spending a bit of time with my family at the beach.
