| Season roundup - Jesse Sergent |
Sergent in his Trek Livestrong kit (c) Bill McPherson
From there he went directly to the US where he rides, along with Sam Bewley, for the U23 team Trek Livestrong. The team is a development squad initiated by Lance Armstrong and directed by Axel Merckx. Sergent had a busy season not only racing all the big tours across the US, but also spending time in Canada, Luxembourg, Belgium and France. Best ride/result of the season? Best result of the season would be 3rd in the Time Trial at Tour De Beauce in Canada. Next races / goals before the end of the international season? 11th-13th September Univest UCI 2.2 Then I will be focusing my training on the Road World's Time Trial in Switzerland on the 23rd September. Best experience (on or off the bike)? U23 Paris Roubaix was an amazing experience being a part of the winning team with Taylor [Phinney], having the Legend Eddy Merckx give us advice before the race and ride in our team car was a buzz. Also, first time on the famous cobbled roads was like nothing I've ridden on before. It's one race I'll never forget. I look forward to next year's edition.
Were you happy with your 2009 International season? I am satisfied with my 2009 season. I learnt a lot about myself, training, and how to race from none other than Axel Merckx the team Director. I think I developed as a rider this year from all the racing and living at altitude, it was a new experience. I look forward to next year and hope to keep on progressing to be a better bike rider.
When are you back in NZ? 30th September, Feilding. (where the sun is always shining!)
Are you planning on riding: Tour of Southland, Taupo Classic, Festival of Cycling, Elite Nationals? I will be racing the Tour of Southland which I'm looking forward to doing again. I'm also hoping to do Taupo and Elite Nationals if possible. Also I will be back on the track and down in Invercargill training for the Melbourne World Cup and Oceania Champs.
Main goal for the NZ season? My goals will mainly be on the track with the World Cup in Melbourne but would like to be going good for Southland Tour also.
