Season roundup - Cath Cheatley
cathcheatleycccc_veronika_lenzi_copyAug 30th, 09. Kiwi international Cath Cheatley sums up her 2009 US season for RoadCycling.co.nz  and talks of her summer plans to visit her favourite kebab store in home town Wanganui.

Cath Cheatley has had a successful season riding the NRC series (National Racing Calendar) in the USA with her team Colavita Sutter Home.

With just a few races to go, 26 year old Cheatley is 3rd on the NRC ranking - now that's giving the US a taste of kiwi!

Next races / goals before the end of the international season?

I have one more race to go with my team Colavita Sutter Home this weekend in Binghamton, NY; Chris Thater Memorial.

*** Update 9:30am Aug 30th reports are coming that Cath crashed out of this race and is on her way to hospital. 10am it appears it's a knee injury with just stitches required .

Aug 31st, "I am really dissappointed to have hit the deck at this stage of the game, but thats bike racing for you," Cheatley told RoadCycling.co.nz. "Just have a rather large hole in my knee that required 6 stitches and the usual road rash and bruises. Good thing is there's nothing broken and skin can heal so should be back into it in no time at all. Plus I am quite a quick healer as I tend to have a lot of practice at it! ***

I am then heading to Europe to race the 5 day Tour of Ardeche with a South African team called Cyclelab Toyota and hopefully the Road World Championships in Switzerland if selected.

Best ride/result of the season?

I have had many podium placings over the season in the USA but the highlight would be 6th at the Montreal World Cup against a world class field over a tough course. A close 2nd was helping my husband, Dayle, take a win in the Kutztown derby for team TREK!

Best experience (on or off the bike)?
Passing the Pro Mens field in Philly and hearing Ina Tutenberg call them pussys! Also getting to spend time with my husband over here this year and having him watch me race at Philly.

Are you happy with your 2009 International season?
Yes, really happy with the improvements I have made on the road and my results and the best part was that I had a great time doing it.

When are you back in NZ?

Back in NZ early October all going to plan and can't wait to move back into my HOME in Wanganui and see all my family and friends who have been so supportive (and maybe visit a certain Donor Kebab shop and a Café or two!).

Are you planning on riding: Taupo Challenge, Festival of Cycling, Elite Nationals...?

Definitely plan on racing these events.

Main goal for the NZ season?

Enjoy myself and prepare for a big 2010!
