The scholarships aim to support cyclists, and other sports people, to pursue tertiary study or professional development while continuing to strive for sporting success.
Awarded athletes receive up to $10,000 for university fees and a capped living allowance of $2,000 per six months.
Cath Cheatley, based in the US for most of the year, is taking advantage of the opportunity to study for free, she is working towards an Accountancy qualification.
Cheatley told RoadCycling.co.nz late last year she thinks it's a fantastic opportunity and all eligible athletes should definitely consider taking it up.
A total of $4.25 million is allocated and this year over 400 athletes and support staff were awarded scholarships after proving they were capable of supporting SPARC's high performance mission of 'more New Zealanders winning on the world stage.'
