Sep 8th, 11. Kiwi first year pro Jesse Sergent was this week named in the roster of RadioShack Nissan Trek for 2012, but that does not mean he has moved away from his Olympic track ambitions.
"I still have goals for next year on the road and track and the Olympic games is of course a big focus," Sergent told RoadCycling.co.nz today.
The 23 year old is part of New Zealand's top team pursuit squad which is aiming for Olympic gold in London next August.
"RadioShack have been very supportive of my track goals in the past year which I am thankful for as it's something that is rare in a professional team," he added.
"Next year there will be some switching from road to track but I'm excited about the opportunities both could bring."
Sergent has had a brilliant first year on the pro-circuit. Not only has he won three time trial stages, he also went on to win two overall tour titles.
In the new team, which combines riders from RadioShack and Leopard Trek, the Kiwi now has five time World Time Trial Champion Fabian Cancellara to learn off!
"I'm happy to be a part of Team Radioshack Nissan Trek and look forward to further developing and learning off the great riders who are on the team and under a lot of the same management that have helped me so much in the last year."
Sergent is next racing in the one day UCI1.HC Paris-Brussels race in Belgium on the 10th of September (along with Kiwi teammate Sam Bewley), the following day he is off to France for another one day race, Grand Prix de Fourmies, also UCI1.HC.
Following these races, Sergent has the UCI Road World Championships in Denmark.
Sergent is the first Kiwi pro-tour rider to be officially announced in a team roster for 2012. RoadCycling.co.nz will bring you news of other riders when details are confirmed and made public.
