Oct 1st, 11. After spending two years with RadioShack, Jani Brajkovic is not joining the newly merged team - he is instead heading back to Astana.
Brajkovic had been previously linked to newly merged team RadioShack Nissan Trek. His name was one of a handful of key riders announced by both RadioShack and Leopard Trek in their respective team merger press releases.
Today's news confirms the 27 year old Slovenian will instead rejoin Astana, who he rode for in 2008 and 2009. He is to be a co-leader along with Roman Kreuziger.
"He is a strong rider who will held an important place in the Pro Team Astana. With Roman Kreuziger they will form a key pair for the Grands Tours and will be leaders of the team," said Team Manager Giuseppe Martinelli.
"They will also benefit from the experience and lessons of Alexandre Vinokourov."
Last month Vinokourov announced his intention to race again. He had retired from the sport after believing his career was shattered after his serious crash in the Tour de France.
After some healing time, he decided he did not want to stop after an accident and abandon his team.
"I can't leave it like that, and I have to stay also for my country. I started training and as announced I will be at the start of the next Tour of Lombardy, and ready to go for another season on the road!" he said.
