Henderson's Team Sky gets pro tour licence

tdw_henderson_thumbSep 19th, 09. Team Sky, where kiwi Greg Henderson is heading next year, has been granted a four year Pro Tour licence the UCI announced today.

The ProTour licence guarantees the British team can race the pro tour season which starts with the Tour Down Under in Adelaide, Australia in January.

Team Sky, with riders Henderson, Tour of Britain four stage winner Edvald Boasson Hagen, Thomas Lovkist, Simon Gerrans, Juan Antonia Flecha and Kurt Arveson have already stated they intend to start their season in Adelaide.  The team has yet to announce its full rider roster.

In addition to Team Sky, the Licence Commission, who administer the UCI Pro Tour licensing, also announced AG2r La Mondiale received a three year licence extension out to 2012.

There was no word on the licence application status for Lance Armstrong's new team, Team Radioshack, however today's statement from the UCI did say a further announcement will be made soon.

"The Licence Commission will announce its decisions on other teams and events that have applied for UCI ProTour licences, or licence extensions, in the near future," the statement reads.

Bbox Bouygues Telecom, Cofidis, Lampre-NGC and Milram have applied for licence extensions whilst  Skil-Shimano withdrew their application this week.

In the statement the UCI also announced two additions to the Pro Tour series. The Grand Prix of Quebec and Montreal have been granted licences for four years (2010-2013).
