Victories keep coming for Brett Tivers

TiversCatskills1_1Sep 5th, 11. Kiwi international Brett Tivers continued his impressive haul of stage victories when he won the time trial of the Green Mountain Stage race in the USA this weekend.

The Taranaki rider has been in fantastic form this year, taking many wins across USA and Canada. He has won one day stage races, classics type races, time trials, criteriums, and his climbing skills have helped him place well at many top stage race events.

With his Canadian team Garneau Club Chaussssures, this weekend the 29 year old is racing the Green Mountain Stage Race in Vermont, USA.

In the opening 9.6km time trial the Kiwi powered away for his 11th season win, beating experienced time trial specialist Tom Zirbel by 6sec.

TIvers defended his lead, if only by 1sec, in the following day road race. Today he raced a 100km stage with many climbs and a hilltop finish - which he believed would be the decisive stage for the overall tour title.

The Kiwi was right, but unfortunately today was not his day.

"I pretty much got attacked left, right and centre by the top guys and after a long season the legs had nothing in them, but never mind it just shows that we are human!" Tivers updated RoadCycling.co.nz this morning.

The tour finishes tomorow with a city criterium.

Tivers attributes his great 2011 season to having fun on the bike again. He spent the last two seasons racing in Australia, but crashes and subsequent broken bones did not allow him to reach his potential.

"I am having a really good time over here, so as the saying goes - when you are happy you ride happy ... and the results just follow," was how Tivers described things after his previous win.
