The 25 year old Kiwi followed up her bronze in the World Championships with the silver medal in the 29km time trial at the Commonwealth Games.

On the out and back non-technical course, Villumsen had the second fastest time at the hairpin turn and finished in the same position to step one place higher on the podium.

In the hot conditions, Villumsen powered to the turn with an average speed of 49km/h.

Canada's Tara Whitten (30)  took gold and 45 year old Julia Shaw of England won the bronze medal.

In the spirit of a champion, Villumsen wasn't totally satisfied with her performance.

"Silver is good but I really wanted to win this one," she said. "I'm a bit disappointed in myself."

NZ's Time Trial Champion Meshy Holt was the 20th rider to start. She had a great ride to gain the fastest time check of all the riders before her at both the half and finish marks.  She finished 5th overall.

Track gold medallist Ali Shanks, the 3rd Kiwi in the competition, finished in 10th place.

World Champion Emma Pooley (England) couldn't repeat her Geelong, Australia Worlds performance and finished in 9th place.
