Second again and again for Jo Kiesanowski

Kiesanowski (r) 2nd overall at the Gateway Cup Jeff Pierce
Sep 7th, 11. She did not have teammates to help, but that did not hold Jo Kiesanowski back at the Gateway Cup four race criterium series - the Kiwi earned three 2nds and placed 2nd overall.

Her last race with US team Tibco was one week ago - she placed 2nd in that criterium too - but with Olympic goals on her mind, the Cantabrian is not winding down her season anytime soon.

Over the Labor Day long weekend in Missouri, Kiesanowski raced the four criterium series, each in a different neighbourhood of St Louis.

"It was kind of fun racing by myself, I haven't done that for a while so it was good fun," she told RoadCycling.co.nz this morning.

Although she did not have teammates, other teams had full leadout trains, something the Kiwi took good advantage of.

"I had to ride very smart as when you are by yourself you have to make sure you expend your energy at the right times!

"I had good positioning coming into the final sprints and just used the other teams leadouts," she explained.

Three times she worked her way up into second position, which earned her second place in the competition behind Colavita's Lauren Hall.

"Now I am back in Colorado Springs for a couple of weeks, Seattle for a couple of weeks then home to NZ for omnium nationals and track camp and will stay home for the summer."

The Commonwealth Games track silver medalist has Olympic goals top of mind. Although she has raced her last road race of the season, she is not about to ease off.

"No break.....full on training!!" she said.
