Paris Tour crash puts Southland in doubt

ryanwillsheadthumbOct 12th, 09. Kiwi Ryan Wills was one of many riders caught up in Paris Tour crashes today.  Unfortunately he didn't come out unscathed.

Wills was only a couple of days away from flying back to New Zealand to prepare for the PowerNet Tour of Southland.  Bringing a European teammate with him, Wills was to race for team "Share the Road".  Those plans came unstuck on the roads of France today.

In one of the many crashes in this year's Paris Tours, Wills was caught with nowhere to go when other riders tangled in the left hand gutter in strong cross winds.

"I've broken my wrist twice before and I'm pretty certain I've done it again," Wills told RoadCycling.co.nz.  The Under23 rider rode to the finish of the race but was outside the timecut and therefore his time doesn't show on the results.

Wills says he will get an x-ray when he is back in New Zealand to confirm his strong suspicion that he has indeed broken his wrist again.

Wills isn't ruling out racing at Southland quite yet.  "I think it could still be ok. I will need to wait till I sit down with doctor," he said.

Paris Tours was won by Silence's Lotto's Philippe Gilbert for the second year in a row. (Read article...)
