NZ junior teams announced for international tours

nz-flagMay 10th, 11. Congratulations to all the young riders selected for the New Zealand teams to race July's Tour of Canberra in Australia and Tour l'Abitibi in Canada.

After New Zealand's two junior tours and last weekend's Club Nationals, the New Zealand selectors have today announced the junior teams to compete at the DBR Australia 2011 Junior and Women's Canberra Tour, July 8-10.

In last year's three day tour Regan Gough won the opening road race and held on to the U15 leader's jersey to win the overall General Classification. Other successes came from Sophie Williamson who won the U17 girls criterium and three other Kiwi podiums in the U19 and U17 boys races.

This year's team includes 32 riders across four grades.

BikeNZ also announced the team to defend July's Nation's Cup event, the Tour l'Abitibi in Canada.  Last year New Zealand's James Oram was 4th overall and the Best Young Rider, and Nick Smith was the King of the Mountain in the seven stage tour. Oram and Sutton are in the squad again this year as is Dion Smith who placed 2nd in one of the stages last year.

The teams will race together at the Powerco Queens Birthday Tour in Taranaki next month, where BikeNZ is holding a wider development training camp.
