Kiwis race on in Tour of California

Feb 18. Stage3, ToC. In another wet day of competition at the Amgen Tour of California twelve riders, almost ten percent of the total field, abandoned the race, but the kiwi contingent is going strong.

The four kiwi riders came in with the peloton at the end the Stage 3 today which means they were given the same time as the winner regardless of their placing:

  • Peter Latham, Rock Racing 74th stage, 87th GC
  • Hayden Roulston, Cervelo Test Team 104th stage, 28th GC
  • Glen Chadwick, Bissell Pro Cycling 101th stage, 53th GC
  • Jeremy Vennell, Bissell Pro Cycling 110th stage, 41th GC

Hayden Roulston’s teammate Thor Hushovd took the stage win after a fantastic lead out by his team.  At the finish sprint Cervelo had a train of three riders, including Roulston who swung Hushovd to the finish easily ahead of the other sprinters.  Cervelo TestTeam's management told RoadCycling.co.nz that it was "a stunning final km sprint propelled by a classic leadout from teammates Hayden Roulston, Dominique Rollin and Brett Lancaster".

"It was good to see how smoothly we were together," commented Dominique Rollin. Sports Director Jean Paul Von Poppel called it "a perfect train with Roulston starting the action about 2 km out".
