Kiwi riders excel in trying conditions

Feb 16, Stage1 ToC. The kiwi riders showed that they aren't just TT specialists.  In appalling weather conditions during stage 1 of the Amgen Tour of California the four riders rode with the best of the best and beat a lot of them.

Glen Chadwick, Rock Racing - 24th, 3rd in the peloton sprint.

Hayden Roulston, Cervelo Test Team - 27th, 6th in the peloton sprint


Chadwick and Roulston showed their class by beating the following pro tour veterans:

  • George Hincapie, 32nd
  • Thor Hushovd, 33rd
  • Yaroslav Popovych, 35th
  • Christian Vande Valde, 44th
  • Frank Schleck, 46th

 

Jeremy Vennell, Bissell Pro Racing - 41th, mid peloton beating greats such as  Oscar Freire 62th,  Cyril Dessel 85th

Peter Latham, Bissell Pro Racing - 102th


Overall in the General Classification the kiwi riders hold the following positions:

  • Hayden Roulston, 28th, 5m07s behind leader, one place ahead of Floyd Landis
  • Jeremy Vennell, 30th, 5m08s
  • Glen Chadwick, 54th, 5m20s
  • Peter Latham, 68th, 13m40s
