chdawickthumb Jun 21st, 09. Kiwi Glen Chadwick talks to RoadCycling.co.nz about his "master plan" to outsmart the peloton today at the Tour of Columbia.  It worked, he won.

Chadwick did what he does best in the Tour of Columbia today.  He rode 80km in a solo breakaway to win Stage 13 for his team Rock Racing.

The Tour of Columbia is a little different from the rest of the racing Chadwick has done this year.  For example, the peloton rode through guerilla territory - no wonder the pace was so fast!

"Yeah it was an interesting two week tour for sure and to get a win (our 2nd in a row) on the last road stage of the tour into the capital was awesome! Tomorrow is a TT so rest day for me!"

"I finally felt like the legs had come good today! I'd struggled the first week with a bad stomach, I'd pretty much gone into survival mode and hoped the 2nd week was gonna be better. Every stage was jam packed with climbs! We had some amazing stage average speeds! These li'l Colombians can really motor!!!!"

With his legs feeling better, and having watched the strategies of the peloton over the last 12 days, Chadwick tried what he called a "master plan" today.

"With 80km left in the stage today there was an intermediate sprint, I decided to follow the guys sprinting for the points," he said.

"Usually the field just let them ride off the front and sprint so I played that card and once they finished the sprint I powered over them and kept going."

"80km to go was a bit of a risk but it was reasonably flat up to the finish. I felt good and just punched the big gears all the way to the line making use of the tail wind at points. A couple of teams gave chase but I was actually pulling away from them so they gave up for a bit!"

"It was a great win for sure and I had a bit of time up my sleeve to enjoy the final kilometre!"

"One of the interviewers said that I proved that Kiwis can actually fly! Ha!"

Chadwick's win today follows on from his Rock Racing team mate Victor Hugo Pena's win yesterday from another breakaway, that time it was a group of four.
