Official Results NOW available. Click here.
The roughly 5km Dyers Pass Hill climb has long been used among Christchurch riders to measure themselves against their friends.
Riders have been unofficially recording their times on cycling forum Vorb using an 'honesty' system, and like many posts on forums, it's up to the reader to determine whether the time is real, inflated, adjusted or tongue in check.
It's now time to get your official result.
Bergamont Cycles and Pegasus Cycling have decided it's time to make the Dyers Pass Hill climb into a bonofide race course and create 'official' times for all to see.
The race is being held on March 7th in a time trial format.
No longer will riders' bragging about the fastest time be challenged about the weather conditions, or drafting, to achieve their time, instead their friends will be able to read the official time on RoadCycling.co.nz.
The Dyers Pass Hill is in part the same course that was used as the main feature of the recent Raboplus Elite Road Nationals in early January, and it proved challenging for the best riders in the country.
The Bergamont Dyers Pass Hill Climb takes the climb up another few notches. The official timed course doesn't turn back downhill at Hackthorne Road, but instead continues up a further 3.5km to the Sign of the Kiwi, providing a true test of the riders' hill climbing abilities.
The racing is split into age groups with six men's and four women's categories with medals for the fastest time in each grade. There are also mountain bike categories for the hairy leg brigade.
It's going to be great spectacle with what is expected to be a large showing of riders wanting to prove their times are real.
The race results will be posted on RoadCycling.co.nz, the location of the "official" results for the Bergamont Dyers Pass Hill Climb, Christchurch.
