Clinton Avery keeps his winning streak rolling |
|
Ten days ago he won the Two Days of Ledegem in Belgium, on Monday he won the opening stage of the Kreiz Breizh Elite race in Brittany and today, back in Belgium, after 14 laps of the 12.2km circuit, Avery was victorious again.
The one day race was another "elite without contract" event, a category Avery hopes to de ineligible for next season.
Avery had pro-team options for 2011, but ended up back in the 'without contract' ranks after Pegasus Racing folded before the season began. Health issues then kept him from the start line and then from the podium for much of this season.
When RoadCycling.co.nz caught up with the 23 year old earlier in the month he said he had not had any contact from pro-teams for 2012 yet.
John Lee, Avery's coach, told RoadCycling.co.nz there was still time for the Rotorua rider to earn the attention of the pro-teams - all he had to do was win every race between now and the end of the season.
It seems Avery listened!
Champion Kiwi cyclist Gordon McCauley placed 3rd in this event back in 2000 (Tom Boonen won). He credits that race for helping him turn pro. McCauley also named Jeremy Hunt as another rider who went pro after his success in this race.
"I hope that contract comes your way, Clinton! You fully deserve it," said McCauley.
